Goforth Wins the San Antonio Nationals and Takes Over the Points Lead, Larsen Clinches the Championship

MARION, TX, Sept. 26

The San Antonio Nationals Fueled by Sunoco did not disappoint as fans witnessed a points lead change in the Pro Stock class, a new winner in 2015 and the clinching of a championship in the Jet Dragster class. The International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) returned to San Antonio Raceway for the eleventh Nitro Jam event of the 2015 season. The race was pivotal in determining potential championship winners for the season finale in Memphis in two weeks. Race Recap: Three top-10s at New Hampshire

LOUDON, N.H., September 27, 2015

In the second race of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, three Hendrick Motorsports teammates finished inside the top nine with Jimmie Johnson leading his teammates to the checkered flag. The driver of the No. 48 Lowe’s ProServices Chevrolet finished sixth. “I am really happy with this Lowe’s ProServices Chevrolet,” Johnson said. “We had to go through a lot adversity today and overcame it and got a great finish.” Just behind him was teammate Jeff Gordon in seventh with Kasey Kahne taking home the ninth spot. After running out of gas in the final laps, Dale Earnhardt Jr. crossed the finish line 25th. Matt Kenseth took the checkered flag at New Hampshire. Read more >

HAGAN GAINS MOMENTUM WITH RUNNER-UP FINISH, NATIONAL SPEED RECORD AT NHRA MIDWEST NATIONALS; MOPAR/ROCKY DODGE MOVES UP TO NO. 2

Momentum is important for NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series competitors. And Matt Hagan gained some during the NHRA Midwest Nationals at Gateway Motorsports Park near St. Louis. The momentum started during Saturday qualifying when the Mopar Express Lane/Rocky Boots team led by crew chief Dickie Venables unleashed a monster run on Saturday evening to qualify No. 1 with a time of 3.883 seconds at 330.47 mph, a national record for speed and the first 330 mph run by a Funny Car. The momentum propelled the team to the final round and a runner-up finish on Sunday marking the first time the team has been to a final round since the Chicago race in July. It is their sixth final round appearance of the season where they have won four event titles. Read more >

JFR COUNTDOWN CLASH HEADLINES AAA MIDWEST NATIONALS

St. Louis, MO, September 25-27, 2015

The Funny Car record elapsed times continued to fill up the qualifying sheet today at the 4th annual AAA Insurance Midwest Nationals as a record ten Funny Cars made three second qualifying runs including all three John Force Racing Chevrolet Camaro SS Funny Cars. Unfortunately John Force will face teammate and Countdown counterpart Robert Hight in a No. 8 versus No. 9 first round match-up. Courtney Force and the Traxxas Chevrolet Camaro SS Funny Car jumped up to the No. 7 qualifying spot on the strength of her final qualifying session run of 3.953 seconds. In the last session John Force needed to step up from his Friday night qualifying time of 3.985 seconds to avoid racing Hight in the first round. The 16-time Funny Car champion made another solid pass, 3.986 seconds, but it wasn’t enough to move off of a first round race with Hight. Read more >

Hot streak continues for record-setting Worsham as he wins under the Arch

Madison, IL, Sept. 25-27

Del Worsham, driver of the DHL Toyota Camry Funny Car, continued his amazing start to the Countdown for the Championship earlier today as he picked up his second victory in the row growing his championship points advantage. Worsham earned his first back-to-back win in Funny Car since 2009. Worsham started his outstanding weekend in qualifying. He picked up bonus points in each session with nine overall. Worsham reset his career best elapsed time and MPH records multiple times and became just the third driver to dip into the 3.8-second brack-et in the Funny Car ranks with a 3.899 second pass. That run combined with his earlier 3.935 second run gave Worsham the national record and the potential to gain 20 points on Sunday. Read more >
