BECKMAN WITH INFINITE HERO DODGE CHARGER TEAM DOMINATE FOR DSR WITH REMARKABLE PERFORMANCE THROUGHOUT SONOMA NHRA NATIONALS

It was only fitting that young Jason Beckman won an informal dance contest on the winner’s circle stage Sunday at Sonoma Raceway before his dad Jack Beckman and other NHRA Mello Yello event winners took over.

That pretty much made it a Beckman-family sweep at the Sonoma NHRA Nationals. The weekend also includes the quickest ever run by a Funny Car when Beckman and the Infinite Hero team set the NHRA elapsed time record at 3.921 seconds to earn 20-point bonus and pull it within 77 points of teammate and points leader Matt Hagan (Mopar Express Lane/Rocky Boots).

Tommy Johnson Jr. was fired up today at the 28th annual NHRA Sonoma Nationals. Johnson, powering the Terry Chandler-sponsored Make-A-Wish Dodge Charger R/T out of the Don Schumacher Racing stable, made his way to the final round for the third time this season and narrowly missed defeating DSR teammate Jack Beckman. With the final round appearance, Johnson moved from sixth in the Funny Car standings all the way up to fourth.

“Some days, you wake up and feel good. That’s what happened this morning,” said Johnson. “I’m happy with the way I drove, and I’m happy with the way the team performed. I had good lights [reaction times] when we needed them, and we ran as well as we could on the track without smoking the tires. The crew chief and I were in sync today, and that usually leads to good things.”

LONG POND, Pa. – In what proved to be a thrilling fuel-mileage race, three Hendrick Motorsports drivers finished inside the top six at Pocono Raceway. Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt Jr. made it to the finish line with fuel to spare, taking home third and fourth place, respectively.

“Happy with how we finished,” Earnhardt said.

Jimmie Johnson had to pit for one final splash of fuel, but he recovered to finish sixth. Kasey Kahne was involved in an early-race incident that ended his day prematurely, and he was scored 43rd.
