Northern Nationals Presented by Aeromotive at U.S. 131 Motorsports Park

Three Nitro Jam racers scored a pair of victories for the double-event weekend. The fans in the stands hung on every pass after Jason Rupert beat the ET and mph record during Friday night qualifying. All eyes were on every pass the remainder of the weekend to see if he could back up his astounding 5.551 ET which is over 1/10th of a second under the current record. As the weekend closed, Mike McIntire is still the reigning ET and mph record holder as Rupert could not back up his record by the mandatory 1% within the same event the initial record is recorded. Johnson, Earnhardt finish in top 11 at Watkins Glen

Fuel mileage strategy played a major role once again Sunday at Watkins Glen International. On the road course, Jimmie Johnson bounced back from a mid-race incident to take home a top-10 finish. Teammate Dale Earnhardt Jr. – who saved enough fuel to make it to the checkered flag – was right behind him in 11th. Read more >

Tommy Johnson Jr. wins at NHRA Northwest Nationals

Tommy Johnson Jr. won in Funny Car on Sunday at the NHRA Northwest Nationals, spoiling teammate Jack Beckman’s bid to sweep the NHRA Western Swing. Johnson beat Beckman in the semifinals after Beckman’s Dodge Charger R/T dropped a cylinder at the hit of the throttle, then topped Del Worsham in the final with a 4.073-second run at 308.00 mph. John Force raced to his second semi-final of the year today at the 28th annual NHRA Northwest Nationals to go with two wins and two runner-up finishes. The winningest driver in NHRA history will also hold onto his status as the only Funny Car driver to win the three race Western Swing. Today he was chasing his ninth win at Pacific Raceway and came up a few ticks short in against veteran Del Worsham in the semi-finals. Read more >

Todd wins in Seattle

J.R. Todd, driver of the Red Line Oil Top Fuel dragster, picked up his first win of the season today at the Northwest Nationals in Seattle. Todd was solid in qualifying for the second consecutive weekend. His Red Line Oil team earned the sixth starting position with a 3.770 elapsed time. His matchup in round one would be the featured ESPN Marquee Matchup as he took on the 11th place driver Clay Millican in a race that could of been very damaging for Todd’s hopes of making the Countdown. However, Todd came prepared. He laid down the best reaction time of the round, and he needed it. A close race on the top end went Todd’s way and he moved on to round 2. Read more >
